Is he just becoming too big a star for people to handle?
Nov 5th 2011, 22:23

LOS ANGELES -- Whether reports are highly exaggerated or not (or being spread out of jealousy), the big gossip around Hollywood is this: Ryan Gosling is acting "weird."

"The word I'm hearing is eccentric," a young actor on Gosling's current movie, Gangster Squad, told a table of us at a local bar.

This is about the fourth time I've heard Gosling's name strung together in the same sentence with words such as "odd" or "eccentric" in the past month.

Gosling even made the National Enquirer, which called him "doggone crazy" for interrupting a yoga class by bringing along his 11-year-old dog, George, who allegedly peed on the wall.

Another report said Gosling was in the Beverly Hills restaurant he part owns, called Tagine, circling the diners and playing air guitar.

What gives?

Is Gosling really doing anything different than usual? Or, is he just becoming too big a star for people to handle?

And if someone cries "weird" does everyone start mindlessly repeating it?

The actor source (must be some extra imo!) , who stars in several scenes with Gosling, explained how the lead actor is causing tongues to wag on and off the set:

"Well, he's a really nice guy," he began. "But he comes in wearing a lot of accessories, like red beaded scarves and funny socks. Some people talk about it ... Everybody else just comes onto the set wearing jeans and a T-Shirt."

"Dude! Not wearing the same clothes as everyone else makes you strange?," I said. "Gosling is famous for his fashion sense, he's always on the top-dressed lists! The last time I looked, fashion goes hand in hand with being a star."

He Sometimes when Ryan is just standing there, he starts dancing and pretending he's playing instruments. He's not wearing an iPod or there's no music anywhere, it's like he hears the music in his head ... I'm just telling you what people are saying..."

"Um ... Gosling is a musician. Could it be he's working some tune out in his head?," I asked.

The actor shrugged.

"Then there's the dog. He brings it everywhere. When there's a break, he spends it with his dog." The actor starts laughing. "I know, I know. There's nothing wrong with liking your dog. It's a nice thing to like your dog. ... Everyone was repeating the dog-in-the- yoga-studio story and I'm not even sure it was true. ... And here I am repeating what was repeated to me.

"Like I said at the beginning, he's a really nice guy."

So it seems these stories are weak at best.

The 30-year-old actor has never been a typical kind of man. Whether it be walking away from acting roles to tour with his band, Dead Man's Bones; or dating older women such as actresses Sandra Bullock and, now, Eva Mendes; or spontaneously hopping off his motorcycle to hug fans; or breaking up street fights, Gosling has always marched to the beat of his own drum.

It's what makes Gosling a sought-after heartthrob. It's what gives him the sudden right to have top billing over actors such as George Clooney, which he does in the new film, The Ides of March.

"OK, is it possible that people are envious of Gosling because his star is rising so quickly and they want to tear him down?," I asked.

The actor, a man in his early 20s who just moved here from Texas, took a swill of beer.

"It sure is ... Welcome to Hollywood, baby!"
