Sitting alongside “Shame,” Lynne Ramsay‘s triumphant return to filmmaking “We Need To Talk About Kevin” ranks as one of the most difficult Oscar contenders this year. But don’t let that stop you from seeing the film. Led by (yet another) powerful turn by Tilda Swinton, the film is searing look at maternal love that’s put to the ultimate test.

An adaptation of Lionel Shriver‘s 2003 novel, the film co-stars John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller and tells the story of the the fractious relationship between a mother and her son who commits a horrific act that forever changes both their lives. Moving back and forth through we track the relationship that continues to fray over the years, as the pair go through hatred, cynicism and almost a grudging acceptance they’re family. But this is devastating stuff, chronicling both the events before and after the shocking central incident with a finale that will leave you breathless. Oscilloscope have a tough movie on their hands but they are hoping the continuing beautiful marketing for the picture can get interest moving. HitFix has revealed the latest poster for the movie bears an almost ironic resemblance to Criteron‘s cover for Ingmar Bergman‘s “Fanny & Alexander.”

Anyhow, take a look at both below and check out the movie when it starts rolling out across the country on December 9th.
