H&M is launching a Girl With the Dragon Tattoo fashion line!
Oct 26th 2011, 14:43

For all fans of detective novels, Sweden and general kick-assness, today brings good news! The characterLisbeth Salander, of the best-selling thriller books turned Hollywood film franchise, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – is being honoured with her own fashion range. That’s right. Our favourite High Street chain, H&M is launching a range designed by the lady responsible for the film costumes, Trish Summerville. The film, which looks like it’ll be ace because it’s been directed by David Fincher, will be out in cinemas on December 26th, by which time fans of Gothy motorcycle leathers and knitted snoods will have had a week to get kitted out in the H&M gear because the clothing range launches on December 14th. Yay!

In the meantime, we’re really interested in this Trish Summerville character. The designer who’s created  clothes for the tomboy with both anarchist AND crime fighting tendencies (that’s very much our kind of feminist heroine) outfits in the film has also got dressing bands like The Black Eyed Peas, No Doubt, Ricky Martin and Janet Jackson on her CV, and we have to say; we love her punky personal style too. She says; ‘We put a lot of aged-in washes and finishes, which goes along the lines of the Salander character. In the film, her clothes are quite extreme. They’re really worn down, they’re dirty,’ she told WWD. ‘So for us, it was taking that kind of concept and giving it more of a realistic fashion feel.’ The films are the latest instalment in ‘a literary and movie phenomenon’ as the trailer has it. First came the books by Steig Larsson, then the Swedish movies starring uber feisty Noomi Rapace. Now that Hollywood has caught up with the thing, making an English language film, relatively unknown actress Rooney Mara will be taking over as the rebellious computer hacker Lisbeth Salander. The costume designer defined Mara’s look in the movie with makeup artist Pat McGrath and hair stylist Danilo, who chopped about 10 inches from her locks and bleached her eyebrows. The actress has fake tattoos, but got her eyebrow and nipple pierced for real to get into character (!!!)  As described in this week’s Grazia, Rooney used to have long girly hair which she has now had shaved off. (No bad thing, we don’t think). ‘She is amazing to work with. She’s a real hard worker, and she did an outstanding, outstanding job. She should be extremely proud of herself because it was rough. It’s a rough film to make and a rough subject matter and she was really impressive,’ Summerville said of the actress. The capsule collection, which is part of Divided, will range from a few quid for an accessory to over £100 for the leather jackets, has been officially stamped with the ‘cool’ seal of approval – as it’ll be stocked in Colette in Paris, a few days before it launches worldwide in H&M stores. You heard it here first!
